Australia Thick clouds of black smoke are rising from a massive heap of recycled metal in Melbourne, close to the city.
About 1:45 p.m. today, firefighters were dispatched to a factory fire on Plummer Road in Laverton North, west of the central business district.
Emergency Management Victoria advised locals to stay away from the area as more than 70 workers attempted to contain the fire.
Fire Rescue Victoria released a statement saying, “There is no immediate threat to the community and no action is required.”Teams from the Environment Protection Authority Victoria are also present and working to prevent firewater runoff from contaminating nearby waterways.
They have advised those in the vicinity to stay inside and are keeping an eye on the air quality.
