The son of TikTok chef Lynn Yamada Davis revealed her passing on social media on Friday. Davis was 67 years old and well-known for her humorous culinary videos. Her son described her last moments as “extremely serene,” and she passed away surrounded by loved ones.

The New York Times was informed by her daughter Hannah Mariko Shofet that her mother passed away from esophageal cancer.



Davis’ son shared a video on social media featuring pictures of his mother when she was younger, throughout her time as an MIT student, and after she had her degree in civil engineering.

The late social media celebrity, who gained popularity for her humorous and lighthearted cooking tutorials, passed away on New Year’s Day at Riverview Medical Centre in New Jersey from esophageal cancer.

With almost 10 million subscribers on YouTube, over 17 million TikTok followers, and 2.2 million Instagram followers, “Cooking With Lynja” was a welcome and well-liked addition to the flood of content in the always shifting algorithms.

The New York Times reports that Lynja passed away at Riverview Medical Centre in New Jersey on January 1, 2024, four years after receiving a throat cancer diagnosis in 2019. According to reports, in 2021, she got esophageal cancer.

At the age of sixty-three, Lynn Yamada Davis started making films for TikTok in 2020. While they were under lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, her youngest son Tim Davis came up with the idea for the videos while he was practicing his video editing. Since 2020, he has contributed to the filming and editing of all of her “Cooking with Lynja” videos. “Cooking with Lynja” took up the 12th Streamy Awards’ “Best Food” and “Best Editing” in 2022.
